Every host knows the feeling. You want cold draft beer on tap for the big game or the backyard birthday party. But you also don’t want a bulky appliance sitting empty for weeks between gatherings. Most kegerators do one job and spend the rest of the year taking up space.
Zephyr built the Presrv Kegerator and Beverage Cooler to solve that. It’s a hybrid: it pours draft beer when you’re hosting and works as a roomy beverage cooler the rest of the time. If you’re planning a home bar, a media room or an outdoor kitchen, this is one of the most flexible appliances you can build around.
A Kegerator That Doesn’t Retire Between Parties
The main idea behind the Zephyr Presrv is simple. With a keg installed, it’s a full draft beer system. Take the keg out, slide in the included glass shelves, and it becomes a high-capacity beverage cooler.
Most kegerators can’t do that. Usually you’re left with an empty cabinet between parties that does nothing for your kitchen. The Presrv stays useful all year. You can stock it with sparkling water and sodas on a regular Tuesday, then switch it to a keg for Saturday night.
For homeowners in San Francisco and Marin County, that matters. Space is at a premium in most of our kitchens, from Victorian flats in Noe Valley to hillside homes in Mill Valley, and every inch of cabinetry needs to earn its keep.
Indoor or Outdoor: Choose the Version That Fits Your Space
The Presrv is 24 inches wide with 6 cubic feet of storage inside, and it comes in two versions.
The Indoor Model
The indoor model has a glass door, so you can see your drinks at a glance. It works well in a home bar, a basement game room or a butler’s pantry, where showing off your beverages is part of the look.
The Outdoor Model
The outdoor model has a solid stainless steel door built to resist corrosion and handle the elements. If you’re designing an outdoor kitchen or a covered patio bar, this is the one to choose. The outdoor rating matters even in our mild Bay Area climate. Coastal fog, salt air near the water and summer heat in places like San Rafael and Novato can all be hard on appliances that weren’t made to live outside.
Either version can be built in under a counter for a seamless, integrated look, or used freestanding wherever it suits your layout.
The Details That Make Everyday Use Easy
Zephyr put a lot of thought into the small things, and you’ll notice them every time you open the door.
- Electronic control panel: Set and adjust the temperature easily, without guessing with a dial.
- Three-color LED lighting: Pick from cloud white, deep blue or amber. White makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. Blue and amber set the mood when guests are over.
- Carbon air filter: It keeps the air inside fresh, so odors don’t build up and affect your drinks.
- Sabbath mode: A thoughtful feature for households that observe the Sabbath, which adjusts how the appliance operates during that time.
- Pro-style stainless handle: A sturdy, substantial handle that matches other professional-style appliances.
- Locking kick plate: Handy for keeping curious kids, or curious guests, out of the beer.
- Door-open alarm: A gentle reminder if the door isn’t fully closed, so nothing warms up overnight.
Designed to Fit Where You Want It
Two installation features really help with kitchen planning. Zero-clearance hinges let the door swing open fully without needing extra room on the sides, so the unit can sit tight against cabinets or a wall. The field-reversible door can be switched to open from the left or the right after delivery. That gives you and your designer much more freedom when deciding where it goes.
Pour It Your Way: Plenty of Options in a 24-Inch Footprint
Here’s where the Zephyr Presrv gets fun. It’s compact, but it’s built for the way you actually entertain.
Maybe you have one crowd-pleasing lager on tap all night. Maybe you’d rather offer a couple of different beers so guests can choose. You aren’t limited to beer, either. The system can handle seltzers, sodas and even cold brew coffee on tap, which is a great touch for weekend brunches or for guests who don’t drink alcohol.
What Comes in the Box
The Presrv includes a kit with the essentials to get pouring:
- The tap tower
- A CO2 tank
- A regulator
- D-style keg couplers, the standard connector used for most American beer kegs
The Optional Nitro Upgrade
Zephyr also offers an optional nitrogen conversion kit. Nitrogen is what gives stouts their creamy, velvety pour, and it makes nitro cold brew silky and smooth. If you love a Guinness-style stout or you’re the household coffee enthusiast, this upgrade is worth a look.
Installation, Step by Step
Installing the Presrv is easier than most people expect. Here’s an overview of how it comes together under a countertop:
- Cut the countertop opening. Cut a 3-inch hole in the countertop where the tap tower will go.
- Install the upper flange. Set the upper threaded countertop flange into the opening.
- Secure from below. From underneath, screw the lower threaded flange onto the upper one.
- Prep the unit. Remove the black plastic insulation cap from the top of the kegerator.
- Slide it into place. Plug the unit in, then carefully slide it under the counter so its top opening lines up with the hole.
- Set up the cooling path. Open the kegerator and remove the air conduit from the beer line cooling system inside.
- Add the insulation tube. Feed the adjustable insulation tube down through the countertop and fasten it to the ceiling of the kegerator with the included gasket and screws.
- Mount the tower. Guide the beer line through the opening and down into the unit, then fasten the tap tower to the countertop flange with the included screws.
That’s it. Your kegerator is installed and ready for its first keg.
A Quick Tip for Remodelers
If you’re remodeling, a 3-inch hole in a stone countertop is a job for your fabricator or installer. Plan the tap location early in the design so the cutout is made before the countertop goes in. Our team is happy to help you think through placement during the planning stage.
So, Would You Buy It? Who the Zephyr Presrv Is Really For
The Presrv is built for people who host often and like to change things up. It fits nicely in:
- Outdoor kitchens where draft beer next to the grill turns an ordinary barbecue into an event.
- Home bars and entertainment rooms where the glass-door indoor model shows off your drinks.
- Kitchen islands where guests naturally gather and pour their own.
- Compact homes where one 24-inch appliance needs to cover more than one job.
There aren’t many appliances like it on the market. Most products are either a dedicated kegerator or a dedicated beverage fridge. Zephyr has introduced the Presrv as an industry first in the outdoor category, and it fills a gap that a lot of entertainers have felt for years.
